The Channels Television DNA

(Being an extract from a speech delivered by the Vice Chairman of Channels Media Group, Dr Olusola Momoh, at the 2024 Annual General Meeting on January 19, 2024)

Introduction

Biologically speaking, Deoxyribonucleic acid (abbreviated DNA) is the molecule that carries genetic code of an organism and by extension, an organisation. The DNA is the biological makeup of anything.

The DNA of Channels Television is a set of properties that gives us brand differentiation. It what make us who we are. And we know who we are by what we produce. How do we reproduce ourselves?

In defining the DNA of Channels Television, I will be playing around the letter ‘C’ which is the first alphabet of our group. So, we have Character, Commitment, Competence, Community, and Compassion.

Character: You can be talented but if you do not have character, your talents and gifts can only take you so much far; it is only your character that can take you forever. Character seeps out of you when you least expect. It is who you are in dark when no one is watching. As a member of this Group, your character must represent Channels Television everywhere you go. The character of humility, politeness, punctuality, courage, loyalty, diligence, modesty, honesty, and much more.

Commitment: As a company, we are committed to our audience, our nation, our partners and associates. As a member of this Group, what is your commitment to the viewers, to Channels Television, to your family, to yourself, the country, the continent and the world? Your commitment should be in sync with the commitment of this organisation.

Competence: It is the ability to do what you have been assigned to do. To sharpen your competence, you must continue to improve on yourself through trainings and diligent practice as the saying goes that the largest room in life is that of improvement. As you improve your skillset, you improve your competence level.

Community: We are not created to be solo beings; we are created to be relational beings. As human beings, you cannot be an island to yourself. If you want to go far, you have to go with people. If you want to go fast, go alone. We are part of the global community. Our marketplace is global though we are first a part of the national community, then the continental community and the global community. We are also a part of our corporate community where our business place is located.

Compassion: As feeble and as little compassion is, it is everything. We must show compassion in our relationship with everyone. We must have compassion for fellow workers, subordinates, subjects, guests, and others.
